
Tollbua’s series of wine events returns, with a special opportunity to enjoy some fine Portuguese wines, including a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to taste a port aged for over a century.
On Thursday, 2nd October at 7:00pm, Tollbua’s elegant Sørfløyen event space will host an unforgettable evening with Quinta do Vallado, one of the Douro Valley’s most historic and acclaimed wine estates. Founded in 1716 and still family-run, Vallado has become renowned for its expressive red and white wines, as well as extraordinary ports that embody centuries of tradition.

The Douro Boys (and girls!)
Founded in 1716, Quinta do Vallado ranks among the oldest and most distinguished estates in the Douro Valley, situated near Peso da Régua at the convergence of the Corgo and Douro rivers.
Wine production in the Douro Valley dates back more than 2,000 years, but the region became inextricably linked to Port wine in international markets from the 18th century onwards. The wealth of native grape varieties and old vines in the Douro – and their potential for quality table wines – was somewhat overshadowed for a time.
Then in 2003, five intrepid producers decided to change this, banding together to showcase not only their premium Ports but also their other wines on the international stage.
Today, the four winemaking businesses – Quinta do Vallado, Niepoort, Quinta do Crasto and Quinta do Vale Meão – remain in the hands of the same families, some of whom are direct descendants of Douro pioneers. However, the next generation of “boys” (and girls) are stepping up to chart an exciting new course to promote the depth and beauty of Douro wines.
On the 2nd October at Tollbua, we welcome William Bakke Engvig from Bonum Wine importers, and Vasco Moniz from Quinta do Vallado.

The evening culminates with a rare tasting of Vallado’s ABF Very Old Port 1888 – a jewel of Portuguese winemaking, released in only a handful of bottles worldwide. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to taste a port aged for over a century.
