From vineyard to vineyard, Voyages in California – Thursday 5th February

Tollbua invites you to an educational and flavourful evening of wine and knowledge.
Join us on a journey through California’s diverse vineyards together with Christer Berens, a renowned communicator and experienced food and wine expert. During the evening, you will taste six wines from some of California’s most exciting wine regions: Napa Valley, Monterey, Lodi, and Sonoma.
Christer will share insights into California’s wine traditions, climate, and grape varieties, explaining how geography and soil influence a wine’s style and expression. You will also learn more about producers such as Black Stallion Estate Winery, Noble Vines, and Three Finger Jack, and what makes their wines unique.

About the Speaker – Christer Berens
Christer Berens is one of Norway’s most respected wine personalities, holding two titles as Norway’s Best Sommelier. He has represented Norway at two World Championships in wine, in Tokyo and Paris, and has an impressive background from restaurants such as Bagatelle and Grand Hotel.
He is also well known from TV 2’s Good Morning, Norway and P4’s Nytelsesfredag. In 2000, he launched his own wine label, Cuvée Christer Berens, and has published several books on food and wine.

The variation in climate – from cool coastal areas to warm inland valleys – creates an impressive diversity of grape styles and wine expressions.
- Napa Valley – known for elegant Cabernet Sauvignon wines and complex Chardonnay. The region’s varied soils and microclimates provide structure and ageing potential.
- Monterey – influenced by cool ocean breezes and fog, ideal for fresh and balanced Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines.
- Lodi – warm and sunny, with old Zinfandel vines producing powerful, fruit-forward wines.
- Sonoma – a highly diverse region, ranging from cool coastal zones to warmer valleys, producing everything from elegant white wines to robust red wines.
This evening offers a unique opportunity to understand how climate, soil, and history shape the wines of these regions.
